Ikhayalethu CYCC focuses on providing love, care and protection services to orphaned and vulnerable children. The House of Shalom offers specialized alternative childcare programs to children who are declared in need of care and protection services by the department of social services and by the children’s court with proper standards and governance structure.
The Centre caters for abused, orphaned and abandoned children. This is a platform to give them opportunity to develop into their individual beings. The center accommodates 40 children of the age 0 to 18 years. Our professional Child & Youth Care Workers provide 24/7 assistance and supervision. A residential social worker is also present at Ikhayalethu CYCC to assist with counseling and programs.
With each child given a sense of belonging and unconditional care we aim to allow for each child to live a normal life despite their circumstances.
On a daily basis children wake up to scrumptious meals, devotion and prepare to set off for school. Upon arrival from school, children attend homework supervision and counselling services are rendered. Our toddlers (below 4) engage in informative and exciting activities that prepare them for school. Our strategic daily schedule also includes six nutritional meals per day. During weekends, our children engage in recreational and life skills activities.
The placing Social Workers make contact with Ikhayalethu CYCC, the child is brought in for an assessment and a care plan is formulated based on a child’s court order and circumstances.
During a child’s stay, supervised visits and phone calls are encouraged. We believe reunification is always the aim!
The residential Social Worker together with placing social worker assist by investigating the circumstances on an ongoing basis and reunifying children with their maternal/paternal family.
Documents Required for Admission:
This is a platform for children to talk openly about their emotions without being judged. It is where we build rapport with child while getting to know him or her. These are private counseling Sessions. This is offered by the Social Worker. Confidentiality is the main aspect in this Service.

Children had opportunities to bond with their families or significant to others. This is done by case managers applying for leave of absence to grant the children with opportunity to visit their relatives. Children are permitted to be visited by their relatives within the premises. The purpose of this is to create relationship between the child and his / her relatives.

These programs are designed to support the children with their emotional, social and physical development. The intention is to empower and support the children by all means.
Homework Supervision and 'Drop Everything and Read!' This Program takes place in the afternoons. Children are assisted with homework and they concentrate on their schoolwork under the close supervision.
All Ikhayalethu Children are encouraged to be involved in Recreational Activities. These activities assist children to be active and stress free as well. They use the nearby Brackenham community Park for games under the close supervision of the Child and Youth Care Workers.
