The House of Shalom was founded by Mrs. Priscilla (Saras) Govender as she followed her vision and calling to care for abused and orphaned children and women.

Vision accomplished!

About the Founder

The House of Shalom was established by Priscilla (Saras) Govender.  It was her vision to provide care for the abused and neglected women and children. During 1992 and 1993  Mrs Govender started a feeding scheme for street children from her private home. We look back and see from where God has brought us and we exclaim, “He has done great things”. She quoted the prophet Zechariah."For who hath despised the day of small things” Zech 4:10

Indeed “Small and glorious things" started on 10 November 1991, but under the dynamic ministry of the Holy Spirit, we have expanded in many aspects of caring for the abused and disadvantaged women and children for which we praise God.

As time passed,  Mrs Govender saw a need to establish a shelter for street children. In the year 1994 this dream was fulfilled with a shelter at Greenhills Meerensee. Since then the Ikhayalethu Children’s Home was established on 13 November 1999 and then Siyabonga Shelter for victims of domestic violence followed on 4 December 2015.

Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this:  To visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

James 1:27
